Questions about Header & footer
- How do the page-number placeholders work?
- Write {n} where the current page number goes and {total} for the page count. "Page {n} of {total}" comes out as "Page 3 of 40". Leave them out and the same text simply repeats on every page, which is what you want for a document title or a confidentiality notice.
- What is the difference between this and add page numbers?
- Page numbers is the narrow tool: numbers, a position, a starting value. This one takes arbitrary text and can carry numbers as well. If all you need is 1, 2, 3, the other tool has fewer settings to get wrong.
- Can I put the line on only some pages?
- Yes. Type the page numbers and only those get it. The common case is skipping the cover: page one of a report usually should not carry the running header that every other page does.
