How to do it

  1. 1

    Add your file

Add the PDF you want to mark. Thumbnails let you see the layout first, which matters — a watermark that sits over a signature block reads very differently from one over a margin.

  2. 2

Set it up the way you want

Type the text, then set the angle and how see-through it should be. A diagonal 45° mark at low opacity is the classic "DRAFT" look; horizontal and more opaque reads as a firm stamp. You can also limit it to certain pages.

  3. 3

    Download the result

The text is drawn onto the pages as part of the document, so it travels with the file. Everything underneath stays intact and selectable — the mark is added, nothing is covered up or removed.

Questions about Watermark PDF

Can the watermark be removed by whoever gets the file?
Anyone with a PDF editor can remove a drawn watermark — that is true of every tool that does this, including the paid ones. A watermark states intent and discourages casual reuse; it is not a security control. If you need the file locked, use Protect PDF.
Does the watermark hide my text?
Only visually, and only as much as the opacity you choose. The text underneath is untouched in the file, so it stays searchable, selectable and copyable. Lower the opacity if the mark is competing with the content.
Can I watermark only some pages?
Yes. Leave the range empty and every page gets marked; give a range and only those do. Marking just the cover, or everything except the cover, is a common need and both are one entry away.
