How to do it

Set it up the way you want
The fields are read out of the document, so you type into the actual boxes the form defines rather than placing text by eye. Tick the flatten option if you want the values locked so the recipient cannot change them.

Download the completed form. Without flattening it stays editable; with flattening the values become part of the page.

- It says there are no form fields. What now?
- Then the file has none — it is a flat document, most often a scan of a printed form. Create fillable PDF lets you draw the boxes yourself and gives you back a real form.
- Should I flatten it?
- Flatten if you are sending it back as final and do not want the values altered. Leave it unflattened if someone else still has to add their part, because flattening locks the fields for everyone.
