How to do it

  1. 1

    Add your file

Add the .docx you need to change — a contract, a template, a proposal someone sent you.

  2. 2

Set it up the way you want

Type the text to find and what should take its place. Leave the replacement empty to delete instead.

  3. 3

    Download the result

Download the edited file. Fonts, sizes, tables and images are exactly where they were.

Questions about Edit a Word document

Why not just open it in Word?
Because you may not have Word, or the change is one line and opening a 300 MB program for it is absurd. This does the narrow thing people actually need: change a date, a name, an amount — without touching anything else in the file.
It says my text was not found, but I can see it.
Usually letter case: turn that option off and try again. If it still fails, the text may be inside a text box or a chart, which live in separate parts of the file that this tool does not rewrite. The body, headers, footers and footnotes are all searched.
Will the formatting survive?
Yes, and that is the whole point. The file is not rebuilt — only the matched characters are swapped, and the replacement inherits the formatting from where the match started. So a bold total stays bold, and the table around it does not move.
