Questions about PDF to EPUB
- Why convert at all — e-readers open PDFs.
- They open them, but a PDF page is a fixed size. On a six-inch screen that means either microscopic text or endless panning. EPUB reflows: the words rearrange themselves to your screen and your font size, which is the whole reason e-book formats exist.
- My layout and tables are gone.
- Yes, and that is not a defect to be fixed. EPUB is a flowing format; it has no fixed page, so columns, precise positioning and complex tables cannot survive the trip. For a document where the layout carries meaning, keep the PDF.
- What kind of document converts well?
- Anything that is mostly running text: a novel, an essay, a report, a manual. Anything designed as a page — a magazine, a form, a technical drawing, a scanned book — will come out as text without its shape, if it comes out at all.
