Questions about Combine into one long page
- What is this actually for?
- Three things, mostly. Reading by scrolling instead of paging on a phone. Printing on a roll or a plotter, where page breaks are pointless. And screenshotting a whole document at once for a slide or a message, without stitching images together.
- Does the text survive?
- Yes. Each page is embedded as a vector form, not rendered to pixels, so search, selection and screen readers keep working. The easy way to build this tool would rasterise everything, and that quietly destroys all three.
- One of my pages came out empty.
- That page had no content stream — scanner separators and printing spacers are often like that, and PDF allows it. It cannot be embedded, so it is kept as a correctly-sized placeholder rather than dropped. Skipping it silently would leave you with a page count that no longer matches.
