How to do it
Fill in the details
There is no file to add — you are writing the quote. Fill in your details and the client’s, a quote number, the quote date and the Valid until date, then the items.
Set it up the way you want
Add one item per line as description | quantity | unit price. Tax and the total are worked out as you type with the same rounding as Create an invoice, so the figures stay identical when the quote becomes a bill.
Download the result
Download the quote as a PDF. It says in plain words that it is a quote, not an invoice, and that no payment is due until it is accepted.
Questions about Create a quote
- What is the difference between a quote and an invoice?
- A quote offers a price; an invoice asks for payment. This document is marked as a quote and carries a validity date, so nobody books it as a debt. When the client accepts, paste the same lines into Create an invoice and the totals match to the cent.
- What if the Valid until date is earlier than the quote date?
- The tool stops and asks you to fix it, so you never send a quote that expired before it was issued.
- Why does it stop on one of my lines?
- Each item needs a description, a quantity and a unit price separated by |. When a line can’t be read, the tool points to it instead of quietly leaving an amount out of the total.
- Can I add sales tax or VAT?
- Yes. Give the tax a name and a rate, and it is added on top of the items. Leave the rate at 0 for a quote without tax.
