Questions about HEIC to JPG
- Why does my iPhone save photos nobody can open?
- Because HEIC stores the same picture at roughly half the size of a JPEG, which is a real saving on a phone. The cost is that outside Apple’s world support is thin: Windows needs an extra codec, and a lot of websites and older software simply refuse the file.
- It says my browser cannot read HEIC.
- Then it genuinely cannot — this was measured, not guessed. Safari on a Mac, iPhone or iPad decodes HEIC because the decoder belongs to the system; Chrome and Firefox have none. Open this page in Safari and the same files convert.
- Can I stop my iPhone making HEIC files?
- Yes, and it is often the better fix. Settings, then Camera, then Formats, then Most Compatible: the phone shoots JPEG from then on. Existing photos stay HEIC, which is what this tool is for.
