Questions about HEIC to PNG
- Should I choose PNG or JPG?
- PNG for screenshots, diagrams, logos and anything with sharp edges or transparency; JPG for photographs. A photograph as PNG can be five times the size for no visible gain, and a screenshot as JPG picks up smudges around the text.
- Is anything lost in the conversion?
- PNG itself loses nothing. What was already lost is what HEIC discarded when the photo was taken — that cannot be brought back by any converter, here or anywhere else.
- My browser says it cannot read HEIC.
- It cannot, and we check before asking you to wait. Safari on a Mac, iPhone or iPad has a HEIC decoder because the system provides one; Chrome and Firefox do not. The same files work if you open this page in Safari.
