Questions about Split every N pages
- Why do the file names have page ranges instead of numbers?
- Because part 4 tells you nothing. In a document cut into forty files, book-13-16.pdf is the only thing that lets you find page 14 without opening files one after another. The name is doing the work an index would otherwise do.
- What if the page count does not divide evenly?
- The last file is just shorter. A 25-page document cut every 10 gives you 10, 10 and 5 — nothing is padded and nothing is lost.
- I want to split at chapters, not every N pages.
- Then use Split by bookmarks, which cuts at the document’s own outline entries. Equal chunks are for documents with no structure to follow, like a scan; bookmarks are better whenever the structure exists.
