How to do it

Add your file
Add the document you want as a folded booklet. It works best on something already laid out at half your paper size, but any document can be imposed.

Set it up the way you want
Nothing to set. The pages are reordered into printing pairs, which is not the same as putting them side by side: page one has to sit next to the last page so the stack folds into the right order.

Download the result
Print double-sided, flipping on the short edge, then fold the stack down the middle and staple. The page order will come out correct.
Questions about Make a booklet
- Why is the page order in the file so strange?
- Because that is what folding requires. When a stack of sheets is folded, the outermost sheet carries the first and last pages, the next carries the second and second-to-last, and so on. Printed in order and folded, a booklet reads as nonsense — the reordering is the whole tool.
- How do I print it correctly?
- Double-sided, flipping on the short edge. Flipping on the long edge will put every other sheet upside down, which is the single most common mistake here.
- What if my page count is not a multiple of four?
- Blank pages are added at the end to make it work, because a folded booklet always uses sheets of four pages. That is arithmetic, not a limitation.
