Questions about Whiteout PDF
- Is the text underneath really gone?
- No, and this matters more than anything else on this page. Whiteout draws a rectangle on top. The original text is still in the file and comes back with copy-paste, with text extraction, or with any search tool. To remove it for good, use Redact PDF, which deletes the content itself.
- Then when should I use this instead of redaction?
- When you are correcting, not concealing. Covering a stale price to write the new one, hiding a stray mark on a scan, tidying a form before printing. Anything where it would not matter if someone read what was underneath.
- Why can I choose a colour instead of white?
- Because pages are not always white. On a cream scan, a coloured form or a shaded table row, a white rectangle is a bright patch that announces itself. Matching the background makes the correction sit quietly on the page.
