How to edit a PDF: text, images and pages

01Change existing text

Edit PDF text replaces text that is already in the document, such as a wrong date, a misspelt name or an outdated price, and leaves everything else exactly as it was.

1. 1Open Edit PDF text and add the document.
2. 2Pick the text you want to change and type the new wording.
3. 3Download the edited PDF.

Keep replacements a similar length. A PDF stores each piece of text at a fixed position with no reflow, so a much longer phrase has nowhere to go.

02Add new text, images or a signature

To write something new on a page, such as a note, a filled-in blank or a logo, add it on top. Add text places a text box you can size and position; Add image does the same for a picture. For signatures, Sign PDF is quicker because your signature can be saved and reused.

03Cover or remove old content

Whiteout covers an area with a white box, which is handy for hiding an old value before typing a new one over it. It is a cover, not a deletion: the original may still be selectable underneath. If the content must be truly removed, for example personal data, use Redact PDF, which deletes the text from the file.

04Rearrange, rotate or delete pages

Organize PDF shows every page as a thumbnail. Drag pages into a new order, rotate the ones that came out sideways, and delete pages you do not need, then download the result.

05When to convert to Word instead

If you need to rewrite paragraphs, change the layout or reuse the content in a new document, convert the PDF to Word, edit it there, and turn it back into a PDF when you are done. Scanned PDFs need OCR first, since a scan contains an image of text rather than text.
