Notice to vacate (tenant’s notice to end a lease) template
When you move out, most leases require written notice a set number of days in advance. This letter gives that notice, asks for the deposit to be returned to your forwarding address, and has an acknowledgment block so the landlord can confirm when they received it.

Get the dates right
Most disputes over notices are about dates, not wording.
- Find the notice period in your lease. State and local law may also set a minimum.
- Count the notice from the day the landlord receives it, not the day you write it.
- Keep a signed copy, or send it for signature so the landlord’s acknowledgment is dated.
